Black Snowball

The kitten meowed and scampered at me out of the shadows. Coal black and cute as a button. I made to pick it up, but it hissed and scratched at me. Scrambling backward, only then I noticed the twisted angle of its neck. I had killed that kitten days ago. A second kitten mewed at me from the darkness, then another, dozens.
